Zomba Malawi

YWAM Zomba in Malawi is doing an incredible amount of work through its schools, including DTS programs, as well as by hosting outreach teams from around the world.

At the same time, they are deeply involved in the surrounding communities and villages. Their work includes providing practical support for the elderly and vulnerable, teaching and encouraging children and young people, and leading several Bible study groups.

Under the leadership of Ali and Mphatso, the entire base has a strong heart for people and their circumstances. They do what they can to respond to the current needs of Zomba and the surrounding area.

Needs for support

In 2023, Cyclone Freddy caused widespread destruction across several countries in southern Africa, including southern Malawi and the Zomba region.

Severe flooding destroyed homes, roads, farmland and livestock, leaving hundreds of thousands of people displaced and many communities in urgent need of support.

YWAM Zomba responded by providing food and practical assistance to affected families. Although the cyclone has passed, many vulnerable communities continue to face long-term challenges connected to poverty, damaged infrastructure, food security, access to clean water and adequate housing.

Access to safe drinking water and sanitation also remains an important issue. Malawi continues to experience outbreaks of cholera, highlighting the ongoing need for clean water, hygiene and support for vulnerable communities.

Help support vulnerable communities in Malawi

YWAM Denmark is helping raise funds to support some of the poorest and most vulnerable communities around Zomba, including assistance with food, housing and other practical needs.

Vision of a safehouse

YWAM Zomba has a vision to establish a safehouse for women and children who have experienced human trafficking, exploitation or prostitution.

Although child marriage is illegal in Malawi, girls are still married at a very young age, sometimes as young as 13. This can leave them vulnerable to abuse, exploitation and rejection. Some later find themselves without support from either their husband or their own family and at risk of being forced into prostitution.

The safehouse would provide a secure place to live, professional support and counselling, as well as education and practical help to build a more stable future.

You can help

The project plan is in place, and the next steps are being developed. YWAM Denmark is helping raise funds to support the ongoing operation of the safehouse.

You can contribute with a one-time donation or a fixed monthly gift. Please specify that your donation is intended for the Zomba Safehouse project.

Donations are tax-deductible (danish citizens).

Our relationship with YWAM Zomba

Since 2020, YWAM Zomba and YWAM Denmark have met regularly online to share life and pray together. Over time, we have felt God place the team in Malawi and their work increasingly on our hearts.

Our friendship with YWAM Zomba continues to grow, along with our respect for the important work they are doing in Zomba and the surrounding communities.

You can read more about their work on their website.

Ali & Mphatso

We are Ali and Mphatso Kadinde. We are both born and raised in Malawi and we have 4 wonderful children, Hannah, Nathan and our twins Joshua & Jedidah.

We started our journey in the mission field at YWAM Blantyre Malawi in 2012 and with Gods guidance we pioneered YWAM Zomba in September 2019. God has especially placed discipleship and inner healing on our hearts.

Although we have been born again Christians for a long time,  when we joined YWAM we still had resentment and hurts and the love of the Father in heaven has been healing us. We would love every person on earth to experience this love of the Father that brings healing, joy and freedom.
